Contrasts: Sonata Da Camera - Baroque Chamber Music for Violin & Piano | Perfect for Concerts, Weddings & Classical Music Performances

I bought this CD because it contained the Persichetti Serenade #10 for Flute and Harp, 8 miniature movements which I feel constitute a small masterpiece by any standard. The performance of this piece is wonderful, but the entire CD represents a beautiful artistic statement. The performers wisely included solo pieces for harp, flute, piccolo and a piece for alto flute and harp as well as the three multi-movement pieces for flute and harp. They seem to have taken great care in selecting not only good pieces in a wide variety of styles, but in choosing a program order that weaves this into a pleasing experience from start to finish.The musicians, flutist Leone Buyse and harpist Ann Hobson Pilot, spent some time together as members of the Boston Symphony and seem wonderfully compatable. Not only are they extraordinary performers, but they provide the kind of understanding that is a composer's (and listener's) dream. Great collection!
